The American Legion Post 186, Midlothian, Virginia was named for Major Charles A. Ransom.

Major Ransom died on April 27, 2011, at Kabul International Airport, Afghanistan.

Maj. Ransom was a graduate of Virginia Military Institute where he majored in computer science. He served in the Air Force with the 83rd Network Operations Squadron out of Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. Major Ransom was killed by enemy gunfire at the headquarters building on an Afghan air force compound in Kabul, Afghanistan. Maj. Ransom was posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals.
